A meditative mix spanning from Marina Abramovich to Alejandro Jodorowsky – “connecting with the cosmos and being mindful of body, mind and spirit.”

With quarantines and lockdowns due to the Coronavirus pandemic ongoing around the world, artists are finding new ways to connect with people worldwide.

As part of our new feature on site – VF Live Sets – our favourite collectors take you inside their homes, for intimate record selects and mixes.

In a special one-off instalment, artist and musician Laima traverses through a zen mix of sonics that transcend boundaries between genres and forms. Watch the set in full above, find out more about the inspiration behind it and check out the tracklist below.

“This is a mix of music I usually listen to at home and serves me as study and inspiration. Lately I have looked for art works that are not categorised as fine arts, video art, music or film. I like to find broken boundaries, where the art forms serve as a tool for a greater purpose, which can be to incite feelings, questionings and search for spirituality.

There is something about sound that interests me a lot. It’s the fact that sound is vibration and energy, like everything else in this world. I somehow see sound transcending the physical reality we are in; you can’t touch sound but it can travel with you everywhere. When I see amazing conceptual artists using sound on their work it just makes so much sense.

There is a book on this subject I love and recommend to you, which is called Broken Music” – Artists’ Recordworks (Edited by Ursula Block and Michael Glasmeier). Laurie Anderson, Joseph Beuys, John Cage, Nam Jun Paik, Bill Viola – all explored sound as a sensory gateway.

This mix is about this gateway, it could be much longer but for this occasion I chose to share some pieces that are not so accessible, but equally relate to the times we are living in; staying home, relating to nature, looking inwards, connecting with the cosmos and being mindful of body, mind and spirit.”
