The award, which is in its 32nd year, features an eclectic list of nominees from the beautiful and intense folk of Irish band Lankum to the joyous disco-pop of Jessie Ware’s That! Feels! Good!.

Other shortlisted albums include Jockstrap’s I Love You Jennifer B, Loyle Carner’s hugo and Shygirl’s Nymph, all of which featured on VF’s best albums of 2022 list.

Notable absences from the shortlist include I Inside The Old Year Dying by two-time winner PJ Harvey, last year’s winner Little Simz and, as usual, the entire genre of metal.
