VF Live: Nombuso Mathibela

A South African jazz, funk, and folk records special.

In VF Live, DJs take you inside their HQs, record shops, and studios for intimate sets and mixes.

Johannesburg-based DJ Nombuso Mathibela makes her debut in the series, with a special focusing on “records by South African magicians, jazzmakers, and folklorists.

“These are some of my favorite tracks that have made me appreciate the unique visual aesthetics of South African sound. Some of the beauty of this region’s chants, melodies, and unending rhythms can be seen in how people dance. This selection is for furious dancers, spiritualists, and lovers of long-sides.”
