In VF Live, DJs take you inside their homes, record stores, and studios for intimate selects and mixes.

Brighton-based DJ Kirollus has been working at his local specialist record store Uptight Records for the past eight years, amassing a mighty collection along the way. In 2020, he also launched a bi-weekly mix series called Forty Minutes of Funk, to help push boogie, funk, and soul, and the talented DJs within the scene.

He returns with an uplifting live set featuring boogie, funk, and jazz records:

“This mix is a bit unusual in the sense that it’s split into two halves that are musically quite different, but somehow manages to work. I kick off the freestyle session with a fierce, female-fronted synthesizer boogie record. The mix then takes an unexpected turn after the all-time classic ‘Expansions’ by Lonnie Liston Smith, which inspired me to delve into a lesser visited part of my collection.”
