Funk, soul, and boogie from his Brighton HQ.

In VF Live, DJs take you inside their homes, record stores, and studios for intimate selects and mixes.

Brighton-based DJ Kirollus has been working at his local specialist funk, soul, and jazz record store Uptight Records for the past eight years, amassing a mighty collection along the way. In 2020, he also launched a bi-weekly mix series called Forty Minutes of Funk, to help push boogie, funk, and soul, and the talented DJs within the scene.

He returns for his latest VF Live with an energetic set: “I kick off the mix with a few jazzy early ’80s grooves by Dexter Wansel, Don Blackman & Bobby Broom, before inevitably turning up the heat peaking at the 2003 remix of the ’70s tune ‘Space Funk’ by revered instrumental band Manzel – whose records are highly sought after by funk collectors and DJs. If you like that be sure to check out the band’s killer 1981 remake of entitled Capricorn Flight under their short lived alias ‘The Saturn Symphony Orchestra’.”
