Unearthing “buried tools for bearing grief, loss, and disappointment.”

Singer and producer Zola Jesus, aka Nika Roza Danilova, is releasing a new album, called Arkhon, via Sacred Bones this May.

While Danilova previously created her albums solo, on Arkhon she collaborated with producer Randall Dunn and drummer and percussionist Matt Chamberlain.

Speaking about the album title, Danilova explains: “Arkons are a Gnostic idea of power wielded through a flawed god.”

“They taint and tarnish humanity, keeping them corrupted instead of letting them find their harmonious selves. I do feel like we are living in an arkhonic time; these negative influences are weighing extremely heavy on all of us.”

Arkhon follows Zola Jesus’ last studio album, Okovi.

Pre-order Arkhon here in advance of its 20th May release; check out the artwork and tracklist below.
