VF Live: The Other Records #9 with Atiyyah Khan

Malian blues, Nigerian highlife, Congolese soukous, Sudanese tambour and beyond.

In VF Live, DJs take you inside their HQs, record shops, and studios for intimate sets and mixes.

Cape Town shop The Other Records returns for its latest VF Live set, with DJ, arts journalist, and archivist Atiyyah Khan at the helm.

In 2013, Atiyyah co-founded music collective Future Nostalgia, which hosts listening sessions around Cape Town. The collective describes itself as a “platform to gather in the spirit of community” and brings together “collectors, selectors, deejays, and diggers” to celebrate the culture of records and listening.

Aiming to “show the richness of sounds originating from the African continent” in her VF Live set, Khan selects Malian blues, Sudanese tambour, Algerian Berber music, Congolese soukous, and Kenyan taarab tunes.
