This November, Classic Album Sundays celebrates the 20th anniversary of one of the greatest albums from the ‘Golden Age of Hip Hop’: A Tribe Called Quest’s Midnight Marauders. This LP along with ATCQ’s The Low End Theory are two of the Native Tongues’ finest moments on wax. For their third biscuit, Tribe balanced socio-political awareness discussing the ‘N-Word’ used by African-Americans ‘as a term of endearment’ with whimsical ditties about going to get a milkshake. Midnight Marauders keeps Tribe’s jazz/funk/soul groove intact yet widens the scope with samples of Billy Squier and Malcolm McLaren all produced with a bright top end sheen making it their most commercially successful venture.
