From a Sun Ra-inspired synthesis workshop to sets from Alexander Nut, Underground Resistance, Donna Leake and more.
With the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic putting a halt to the summer’s usual run of festivals, Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here weekender is going virtual — running from today Friday 21st through until Sunday 23rd.
To help you sift through the packed programme, we’ve selected some of the best sets, workshops and performances to tune into this weekend.
Starting it off this afternoon, look out for sets from Moses Boyd, Eliza Rose, Alexander Nut, Eddie Fowlkes, Samrai, and Children of Zeus.
On Saturday, notable shows include Donna Leake, Sun Ra Arkestra, Auntie Flo, Coco Maria, Underground Resistance, and Creole Cuts x Poison Zcora.
Rounding it all off on Sunday, be sure to catch Laani & Charlie Dark, Hector Plimmer, and Demae.
Alongside the live sets, CDR is also hosting a series of workshops, talks, and more on Saturday, with highlights including a Sun Ra-inspired synthesis workshop and an A-Z of jazz with Moses Boyd and Cassie Kinoshi.
We Out Here: Online & On Air is being broadcast via Mixcloud Live, as well as Peterson’s own Worldwide FM and Manchester’s Reform Radio. You can access all the various goings on via the festival’s interactive site.
All proceeds from We Out Here: Online & On Air are being split between the following six originsations: People Dem, Tomorrow’s Warriors, Black Cultural Archives, Black Minds Matter, Abram Wilson Foundation, and The Black Curriculum.
