Expurrrimental sounds.

Black Truffle is reissuing Annea Lockwood’s 1970 tape Tiger Balm on vinyl for the first time since its original release.

Lockwood’s tape recording is particularly noteworthy for the uniqueness and variety of the samples used, as well as reaffirming her “belief in the complexity that deep listening can reveal within seemingly simple sounds,” says musician Francis Plagne.

Side A’s ‘Tiger Balm’ is a a mixture of field recordings ranging from a tiger’s growl to the humming of a plane engine, blending seamlessly into one another. Side B includes two previously unreleased percussion explorations, ‘Amazonia Dreaming’ and ‘Immersion’.

Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker of D&M Berlin, the release also features archival photographs and liner notes from Annea Lockwood.
