How long have you been collecting for?

I started my collection some 6 or 7 years ago. When I started, I had a small collection of 15-20 LP’s or so, and as I had collected CD’s throughout my life I felt reluctant to change the whole thing, but eventually I did. What drew me towards vinyl were the whole experience of having to listen to a full 15-20 minutes at a time. Starting out with buying Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Doors, Pink Floyd, and older Genesis albums like ‘Lamb Lies Down’ and ‘Selling England’ made this whole experience even better, as you really had to immerse yourself into the music.

What part of your set-up are you most proud of?

My set-up is comprised of a Luxman L-81 amplifier, a Luxman PD-272 direct drive turntable and a couple of Hungarian Tannoy R2 speakers. I love the vintage look and feel of the Luxman set-up and especially the TT is my pride and joy. I have installed an Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge on it and its a great upgrade from the former ( and extremely worn down) Grado Prestige Red. My Dad and I have also cleaned and made new phono inserts for it, so the customization and work we have put in it also means a lot.

What record(s) are you most proud of?

“The One” record would probably be Blind Melon’s ‘Soup’, but I also love The Doors so much and I buy anything I can get my hands on with them. I think both bands were lyrically and musically out (or even ahead) of their time. Its difficult to explain why I am so into their music. It just fits the way my mind works, I guess…

What does your record collection mean to you?

Genre-wise my collection spans from Rock to Classical, and Electronic to Jazz. I try to collect music from my youth and what I find interesting at the present. So a lot of digging has gone into 90s music such as Grunge, Indie, and Brit-Rock/Pop, as well as Rock and Electronic music from the 00s. I try to discover new music while hunting for old stuff, so my collection is, more or less, a soundtrack of my past and present… I recently started to collect Afro-Beat music and Jazz from the 50s and 60s. So in a way, a new era is being written in vinyl.
