The month-long residency will showcase “the world’s most advance audio speakers”.

4DSOUND is set to run a month-long residency at Stone Nest with “the world’s most advance spatial audio speakers”.

Starting on April 21 and running until May 20, the residency will see the world premieres of commissioned performances from artists including NikNak, Max Cooper & Llyr, Kali Malone, Oren Ambarchi, Robert Curgenven, Alex Groves, Grand River and Andrea Belfi.

4DSOUND and 33-33 will also collaborate on the Diffusion event series, with exclusive compositions written for the sound system by Suzanne Ciani, Zoë Mc Pherson, Thomas Ankersmit, Bendik Giske.

The events will see performers maximising the 3D sound field created by the spatial audio speakers. One such example is NikNak, who will be playing with space as sound through her turntablism.

“For a decade we have been developing what we like to call spatial sound instruments; site-specific sound systems which are able to project sound holograms in a listening area, enabling artists to actually play the space as an instrument. Our intention is to provide captivating listening experiences where sounds can range from realistic environments, to incredibly surreal electronic manipulations, and everything in-between,” explains Poul Holleman, Director of 4DSOUND.

“It’s not easy to describe in words the full potential of 4DSOUND’s technology, so we’d like to invite everyone with an interest or curiosity in spatial sound to join us at Stone Nest.”
