Shabaka Hutchings announces new Sons of Kemet album

On the iconic imprint who released records by John Coltrane, Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders.

Sons of Kemet are releasing new LP Your Queen Is A Reptile via jazz label Impulse! this March.

Frontman Hutchings revealed the news via his social media adding: “so many of my musical heroes including of John Coltrane, Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders have been housed under this record label it’s an honour to join the family.”

Sons of Kemet features saxophonist Hutchings alongside Theon Cross on tuba, with Tom Skinner and Eddie Hick on drums.

The album follows Hutchings’ A.R.E. Project EP collaboration, one of our favourite 12″s of 2017, and Tom Skinner’s Watermelon Sun, one of our favourite albums of 2017.

Your Queen is A Reptile is out 30th March, and includes cover artwork by Mzwandile Buthelezi with liner notes written by Joshua Idehen.
