New record shop, gallery and café planned for Birmingham

Birmingham’s music community has launched a Kickstarter for Café Artum: Art, Records & Coffee.

The locale will be run by Christy Lakeman – with support from One Records’ Adam Shelton, Eglo Records co-founder Alexander Nut, artist Alexander Rhys, and photographer Tom Bird, amongst others.

“We want to bring back the enjoyment of finding new music, and reignite the relationship people have with their records and with music in general.”

Café Artum will also operate as a gallery and event space for the homegrown arts and music community.

Remaining gifts for backers include record and show bundles from Shadow City and One Records, an exclusive cassette tape featuring mixes from Eglo Records’ Alexander Nut and One Records’ Adam Shelton, and a years pass to Leftfoot, which was voted ‘Best Nightclub’ by Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM.
