Former Arab Strap frontman Aidan Moffat releases 10″ vinyl EP comprised of surface noise

As L.Pierre Scottish musician and one-time Arab Strap frontman Aidan Moffat has long tinkered away in the margins of lo-fi pop and electronica, displaying a penchant for melodic experimentation and heartstring tugging that’s resulted in some cracking tunes in a similar terrain to Boards of Canada. But his latest EP, ‘Surface Noise – Movements I-VI, pushes the sonic envelope even further, using the hiss, cracks and pops familiar to any vinyl fan as the primary element of the recording.

“In these recordings, L Pierre pays an affectionate tribute to the wear and tear of overplayed vinyl the hiss, scratch and pop of records long loved but worn down,” says a statement on the Melodic Records website. “Its the sound of survival, the echoes of a life lived well moth eaten music of dasness and resilience, of beauty and backbone.”

The EP will be released on 10-inch vinyl on September 9, and is available to pre-order now from Melodic – stream Movement I
