What’s with the wicker chair?

Released earlier this year, Drake’s More Life is the latest to enter the rich tradition of wicker chair-featuring album covers.

From your classic soul crooners like Al Green and Syl Johnson to funk astronauts Funkadelic and Outkast – not to mention the seemingly bottomless pit of oddball country, RnB filler and lounge jazz records padding out the bargain bins – musicians have long turned to the rattan recliner to give them a little bit of conservatory cool.

And wearing the patio swag with pipe in mouth on More Life is Drake’s father Dennis Graham – a picture that could only have been taken in the ’70s when the wicker hype was at fever pitch.

To mark the release, we’ve rounded up 25 other album covers that show off the high-back wicker chair in all its glory, accompanied, more often than not, by a dude with a strong moustache.
