1.445 million vinyl albums were sold – a new record for vinyl sales in a single week since Nielsen/MRC electronic records began in 1991.

The figure surpasses the previous high of 1.253 million records sold in a single week during the period from Friday 27th November through Thursday 3rd December 2020, fuelled by Record Store Day’s ‘Black Friday’ releases.

Lockdowns worldwide due to the Coronavirus pandemic have fuelled the continued rise of new and secondhand vinyl sales during 2020, with Discogs also reporting record highs of submissions on its site.
