Japanese koto rhythms and bamboo flutes meet spiritual jazz influences and funk-driven drums.

Tadao Sawai, Kazue Sawai, Hozan Yamamoto, Sadanori Nakamur, Tatsuro Takimoto and Takeshi Inomata’s collaborative LP Jazz Rock is being reissued by Mr Bongo this July.

Originally released on RCA in 1973, Jazz Rock marries Japanese Min’yō folk rhythms performed on shakuhachi – bamboo flute – and koto, with spiritual jazz elements and funk-driven drums.

Mr Bongo’s release marks Jazz Rock’s first vinyl reissue.

It follows the label’s reissue of Dee Dee Bridgewater’s 1974 debut album, Afro Blue, this June.
