Prior to 2020, RSD took place annually every April. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 the event was held across three days in August, September, and October.

Following the announcement of its 12th June 2021 drop day, RSD has adopted the same plan for the year, now splitting the event across Saturday 17th July as well.

Due to the ever-evolving Coronavirus pandemic, decision was made to ensure the largest number of stores across the world are able to participate.
