Theo Parrish and !K7 explore the music of Detroit in new documentary

Meet the artists included in Parrish’s DJ-Kicks compilation.

DJ and producer Theo Parrish has shared DJ-Kicks: Theo Parrish – Detroit Forward, a documentary examining the Detroit sound.

An accompanying piece to Parrish’s recent DJ-Kicks compilation, the documentary features interviews with artists from the release including WhoDat, Sophiyah E., Ian Fink and KESSWA.

“Detroit creates. But rarely imitates. Why? We hear and see many from other places do that with what we originate. No need to follow. Get it straight,” explains Parrish.

“In the Great Lakes there are always more under the surface than those that appear to penetrate the top layer of attention and recognition. What about them that defy tradition? Those that side step the inaccurate definitions often given from outside positions? This is that evidence”.
