MF DOOM’s seminal 2003 album gets the deluxe vinyl reissue it deserves.
Shedding his mask, MF DOOM recorded Take Me To Your Leader in the guise of the three-headed space lizard known only as King Geedorah.
One of the great conceptual hip hop albums, Take Me To Your Leader dropped out of the stratosphere in 2003, crafted from serpentine, off-kilter jazz and sideways soul-tinged beats. A year before Madvillainy, it remains one of DOOM’s most important releases.
“This whole album is Geedorah’s alien perspective on humans,” DOOM said speaking in 2003, giving shine to the guest vocalists that included Kurious, MF GRIMM (as Jet Jaguar), other members of NYC’s Monsta Island Czars and more.
“Geedorah is a space monster. He’s not from the Earth,” DOOM continued. “I made it different on purpose. A blend of ill lyrics and instrumentals. To me its way iller than any of the wack sh*t out now.” Thirteen years later and this statement on the thirteen track LP still rings true.
Due out on Big Dada, who released the original, King Geedorah’s Take Me To Your Leader will be reissued on limited double ruby red coloured vinyl, housed in separate card sleeves within a wide spine, where the original 12” “cutout” insert design has been reimagined on perforated card.
Released on 30th September you can pre-order your copy here or chance your arm for one of the extra-limited red-and-white patterned vinyl editions on sale exclusively through Newbury Comics in the US.
