The world’s most famous record store guy?

First the good news. Jerry’s Records isn’t closing. But the larger-than-life owner of the vast Pittsburgh store Jerry Weber has announced he’s taking a step back following the sale of the business to employee Chris Grauzer.

As Pittsburgh Gazette reports, Jerry will wrap up on 31st July to have further knee surgery before returning to the circuit as “Vinyl-Man”, selling his personal 20,000-strong record collection online and at record fairs.

“Does a 69-year-old man need 20,000 records in his own collection?” he says. “I walk past my wall and there’s like 2½ feet of Billie Holiday records. I only need about a foot of Billie Holiday records!”

Last year, Jerry sold off his infamous 40,000-record Bargain Basement at 50 cents a piece.
