“Redefining the ancient shamanic technique of ecstatic dance.”

Gabrielle Roth’s 1996 album Endless Waves Volume One is being reissued on vinyl, via Time Capsule this September.

A classically trained dancer, Roth worked as a dance instructor for the therapeutic workshop at San Francisco’s Esalen Institute as well as New York’s Arica School.

Roth subsequently went on, according to Time Capsule, to “single-handedly rediscover and redefine the ancient shamanic technique of ecstatic dance”, establishing her own 5Rhythms method during the late 70’s.

“I have found a language of patterns I can trust to deliver us into universal truths, truths older than time. In the rhythm of the body, we can trace our holiness, roots that go all the way back to zero. States of being where all identities dissolve into an eternal flow of energy. Energy moves in waves,” explains Roth.

Between 1982 and 2008, Roth and her husband Robert Ansell produced 16 albums as Gabrielle Roth & The Mirrors – with Endless Waves Volume One originally released on their own private label in 1996.

Across the album, Roth brings together her own soothing instructions, ritualistic percussives, didgeridoo rhythms and early ambient nods – to soothe one’s mind and body.

Endless Waves Volume One follows Time Capsule’s reissue of Gigi’s Illuminated Audioour favourite reissue of 2019.
