Patterson first began performing age 10, and went to on to produce for the likes of Fontella Bass, Ted Taylor and The Montclairs, as well as working as a promoter for RUN-DMC.

Produced by Patterson himself, The Storyteller moves from the upbeat funk of opening track ‘Bricklay’, and the more relaxed rhythms of soul tune ‘Right Place / Wrong Time’, to Patterson’s smooth vocals in closing track ‘I’ll Take Care of You’.

Recorded under his Bobby Story alias between 1976 and 1977, The Storyteller was originally released on Patterson’s own Proud Records imprint in 1982.

The reissue follows Patterson’s 2014 album I Got More Soul!, released via Omnivore Recordings.
