VF Live x Rush Hour: Daniel Monaco

Obscure Italian grooves from the Amsterdam institution.

For our latest VF Live, we head back to the basement of Amsterdam’s Rush Hour for a groovy vinyl set from Daniel Monaco.

Daniel Monaco is an Italian bass player, artist and producer. In 2023, via Rush Hour, he released Life Lesson, a disco-heavy two-tracker “with a wink to Cerrone”, featuring vocals from Mame N’Diack Seck Thiam. Formerly sold out, Life Lesson recently received a repress from Rush Hour, and is available now.

“My idea behind this mix was to show some “obscure” little-known disco soulful rock groovy tunes from Italy. Some of these are hard to find but not impossible to get,” Monaco says of his VF Live mix.

“I wanted to make a set which was preparatory and enjoyable to people who don’t know a lot about Italian rarities and at the same time I didn’t want to make a mix of all expensive nice-but-ugly-rare to find-gems. I wanted to show it out, not to show it off.”
