The xx’s debut album, xx, will be reissued to coincide with the release of the band’s third album I See You, which lands tomorrow on Young Turks.
Originally released in 2009, debuts rarely come as assured and cohesive as xx. The London’s band far-ranging influences are apparent – from the Cure to Aaliyah to the suburban melancholy of Burial and Portishead – but the sometimes seductive, sometimes haunting sound is very much their own.
Many of the tracks are emotional duets between Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim whilst Jamie Smith aka Jamie xx produced the album on his laptop.
Young Turks will give the debut both a regular black re-release as well as a white vinyl reissue. Limited to 500 copies only, the coloured edition is available exclusively via Rough Trade, who revealed that the album is the biggest selling title in its shop history. Pre-order here.
