UK vinyl album sales hit record high in 2019

A 4.1% increase on the previous year.

UK vinyl sales continued to increase in 2019, reports BPI.

Marking the 12th consecutive year of vinyl sales growth, 4.3 million LPs were sold in the UK during 2019.

Vinyl albums now account for one in every 8 albums purchased in the UK across digital and physical formats.

Liam Gallagher’s Why Me? Why Not topped the charts with 29,000 LPs sold, followed by Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go at number 2, and Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours at number 3.

Of the top 10 best selling vinyl albums in 2019, there was only one other record released during the same year that made the cut – Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent at number 6.

Elsewhere, Queen’s Greatest Hits came in at 4, Beatles’ Abbey Road at 5, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon at 7, Oasis’ Definitely Maybe at 8, Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures at 9 and David Bowie’s Legacy at 10.
