The first DJ to receive the tribute.

DJ and producer Tony De Vit is being honoured with a blue plaque, installed in Birmingham’s Custard Factory studios.

Born in 1957, De Vit first started DJing in pubs across his hometown of Kidderminster, before later becoming a resident at Birmingham gay club Nightingale.

He was influential in bringing NRG and hard house sounds over from gay clubs into more mainstream culture.

De Vit died in 1998 due to bronchial failure after contracting HIV.

The new plaque will celebrate how he worked to “break down barriers in society.”

It will be unveiled on the 24th September at Digbeth’s Custard Factory at an event hosted by the Birmingham Civic Society.
