“Emotional music to dance to”.
The xx’s Romy is set to release her debut solo album, Mid Air, on September 9 via Young.
Intended as a “love letter to the queer clubs where Romy found community and connection” and self-described as “emotional music to dance to”, Mid Air sees her working with producers Fred again…, Stuart Price and bandmate Jamie xx.
Listen to the Fred again…-produced single and album opener, “Loveher”, below.
Speaking about the meaning behind “Loveher”, Romy said: “Fred asked me, ‘who could this be for?’ and I tentatively said… ‘maybe me?’.”
She adds about the album: “Mid Air is an album about celebration, sanctuary and salvation on the dance floor. It’s an album that deals with love, grief, relationships, identity and sexuality. It’s a love letter to the queer clubs where I’ve found community and connection.”
You can pre-order Mid Air on yellow, pink or black vinyl ahead of its September 8 release.
