The Starman’s beginnings.

A ‘Liza Jane’ demonstration sample 7″ that David Bowie recorded when he was a teenager under his real name (Davie Jones) is being sold 9th October 2017 by Grand Auction, reports Kent News.

The double-single was released in 1964 by Vocalion, with Davie Jones and the King Bees’ ‘Liza Jane’ on the A-side, and Paul Revere and the Raiders’ ‘Louie, Louie Go Home’ on the B-side.

Demonstration samples were promotional copies given to radio stations and reviewers in advance of a public release to drum up hype.

According to the listing the record’s condition is “Fair/Good. The four prong push out centre is still attached but the record although reasonably looked after has been played considerably.”

An original first-pressing of the release is currently listed for sale on Discogs at £4,000. This rare promo version is expected to be sold for significantly more.
