The documentary features unreleased performance footage from the Purple One’s secret show at the White House performing for Obama in 2015, and his solo Piano & A Microphone tour.

Prince’s Last Year also includes contributions and interviews with friends and collaborators including George Clinton, CeeLo, and political commentator Van Jones.

“While Prince was an artist in complete control of his music, image and his life, in his last year he was also troubled by a long-standing addiction to painkillers, taken to alleviate hip pain from years of performing,” explains Channel 4.

“It was a secret he kept from even his closest friends and family; the only hint that all was not well came just two weeks before his death when he cancelled a concert in Atlanta, later saying he was feeling ‘a little under the weather.’”

Prince’s Last Year, produced by Lincoln Square Productions, will air in 2018 on Channel 4.
