“Undercover soul gems from the Midwest.”

Melodies International is reissuing a double A-side 7” by LaVerne Washington – The Promise’ / ‘I Found What I’ve Been Searching For’ – this August.

Washington began her music career playing the piano as a teenager in Kansas City, before studying at the Charlie Parker Music Academy followed by Langston University.

Originally self-released by LaVerne on her LaMett Productions label in 1984 – ‘The Promise’ was LaVerne’s last recording in Kansas City before she moved to Washington D.C.

Mixing soul with gospel influences, Melodies International’s reissue is restored from the original 24-track tape, featuring the ballad ‘I Found What I’ve Been Searching For’ on the flip.
