Crafting what she terms “folk club.”

Maral is releasing a new album, called Ground Groove, via Leaving Records this October.

Largely composed in Ableton, the album sees Maral drawing on her extensive archive of Iranian folk, classical, and pop recordings.

In doing so, she aims to explore Iranain culture and history, with the label noting she “practises a kind of dance-floor ethnomusicology.”

Ground Groove follows Maral’s last album, Push, on the label in 2020.
