A closer look at the triple LP box set for new album Mirrors.

“Peru made me feel liberated”, Mala told us in a recent conversation. The ideas that come together for Mirrors emerged organically from Mala’s travelling in Peru where he gathered the influence to make a record that convincingly and honestly draws a bridge from Croydon to Lima, via his laptop.

With the album out now on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Records – the label that released his debut Mala in Cuba – we got hold of a copy of the special edition triple LP box set for a closer look.

Mala struggled for close to a year trying out different artwork concepts until his Peruvian photographer-friend Diéguez Diéguez aka Fido created the series ‘Vastness’, which is displayed in full in this set. The special edition also including pouches of palo santo, a holy wood that is widely used in folk medicine and burnt as incense.
