Listen to a new vinyl-only mix by Optimo’s JG Wilkes
“Music to… be seen and not heard.”
“They hesitated to try anything new, were terribly afraid of doing something wrong, and frequently felt ashamed” – Alice Miller
Alongside JD Twitch, our man Jonnie G Wilkes forms one half of notorious Glaswegian DJ outfit Optimo. The pair launched their legendary clubnight in 1997 as a reaction to 4/4 techno, and they’ve been tearing up dance floors ever since.
Anything goes is the music policy – with the duo spinning electro, ’50s swing, sleazy funk, post-punk, industrial, maybe even some techno, and everything in-between. Master selectors with an ear for the unpredictable, when they drop a mix we tend to pay attention.
With his first solo EP ‘Jaxon’ out now on VF, Wilkes has just dropped a genre-hopping, vinyl-only mix for i-D, that digs into the very depths of his collection. Hit play here:
