James Murphy will finally release the long-gestating and “infuriating” live album this Spring.
The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live At Madison Square Garden is an unabridged recording of LCD Soundsystem‘s nearly four-hour farewell gig on April 2, 2011. The 5-LP vinyl boxset will debut on Record Store Day (April 19) before a full release (including digital) on May 19.
Last year, Murphy said the live record had become “a real comedy of errors” and was taking “forever, because I’m not really on a label anymore… It was like the concert happened, and then I spent the next year and a half fucking with it.
“It was great, but also, like, shitting hell. It really just refused to die. I guess somebody else would just have someone else deal with the movie, but I’m an idiot and wanted to mix all that audio. I thought it was going to come out in March, but now I don’t think it’s going to make it for this year. It’s probably going to be beginning of next year. It’s infuriating.”
The cover art and tracklist are below, along with an epic, 8-minute version of ‘Losing My Edge’. Now that the album is finally complete, Murphy can get back to work on his passion project: bringing music to the New York City subway. [via FACT]
