A beloved figure of 1970s jazz.

Jazz saxophonist Arthur Blythe has died, WBGO reports. He was 76.

Sometimes going by Black Arthur Blythe, he was known for bridging styles in post-bop and avant-garde jazz, as well as his distinct vibrato. His first album was 1977’s The Grip, the start of a long discography that ended with 2003’s Exhale.
