Ever wanted to understand how a turntable brings your records to life? Without being able to actually climb inside, that can be a pretty difficult process to explain.

If you can look beyond the the action film voice over, this short film from the Science Channel’s Machines: How They Work series does a pretty good job of dissecting a classic Linn Sondek LP12 turntable, using exploding view animations to follow the process through from the grooves of the record to the stylus, electrical current and mini-amplifier.
