A tape tribute.

Modelled on the increasingly popular Record Store Day, the inaugural Cassette Store Day will see labels and stores gather around the humble tape on 7th September 2013 for a string of special events and releases. Combining new releases as well as re-issues of classic albums on tape, Cassette Store Day has already enlisted labels like SEXBEAT, Kissability and Suplex Cassettes, who will take part alongside more established labels like Transgressive, Bella Union, Domino, 4AD and Wichita Recordings.

While the thrust of the first ever Cassette Store Day seems less based around the stores than its vinyl-centric older brother, there will be events at London’s Rough Trade East on the day, with celebrations planned in LA, New York and Tokyo too. Check out the Cassette Store Day site for more details. [via NME]

The announcement follows last week’s news that a new documentary is to be released charting the story of the unassuming cassette tape. Watch the trailer here.
