A DJ, producer and teacher who left an indelible impact on dance music.

Techno and house maestro Mike Huckaby has died, due to complications from a stroke and Covid-19.

A force within Detroit’s scene for decades, Huckaby brought his sounds to Berlin and beyond in the ‘90s, following the release of his debut on Harmonie Park – Deep Transportation Vol. 1, as well as Deep Transportation Vol. 2.

In addition to his own producing and DJ work, Huckaby was also dedicated to teaching sound and recording to others, including via non-profit organisations reaching out to underprivileged youth in the community.

During recent months, friends of Huckaby had started a crowdfunding campaign helmed by Delano Smith, to help Huckaby with an undisclosed “medical setback”.

“The family of Mike Huckaby would like to thank you for your support, and acknowledges the outpouring of grief from his friends, mentees, Remove featured imagecollaborators and more. Please hold them in your thoughts in this difficult time. More information will be forthcoming,” shared @AdrielDetroit.

At the time of writing, the cause of Huckaby’s death is unknown.
