UK street soul emerged from clubs in Manchester and Birmingham, offering a groove-inducing, relaxed sound whilst the boom of acid house took hold across the UK during the late ’80s and early ‘90s.

However, it was during the early ’90s that UK street soul took on a more concrete form, drawing on reggae basslines, shuffled drum machine sequences, and lovers rock-inspired lyricism focusing on love and desire.

Across its 74 tracks Lover’s Walk: The Numero Guide to UK Street Soul offers an introduction to the genre’s multi-faceted sounds and influences, featuring artists including Ashaye, Soul Connection, Patrice Rushen, Loose Ends, and Beverley Knight.
