Discogs’ first ever reissue project.

Legendary reggae label Studio One has teamed up with Discogs to reissue Freddie McKay’s debut album Picture on the Wall.

Originally released in 1971, it came off the back of several unsuccessful attempts by McKay to connect with the record buying public in Jamaica. ‘Picture on the Wall’ though was a massive hit for the label and has become a crucial part of the rocksteady canon.

A collection of 24 tracks, many not previously included on the original album, this new reissue is presented as “the definitive collection of Freddie McKay at Studio One” and marks Discogs’ first foray into the world of vinyl reissues.

“It’s our first time arranging a partnership in which a label exclusively provides the Discogs community a reissue they’ve been asking for,” public relations at Discogs Jeffrey Smith told VF. For a user-generated platform so instrumental in creating demand for records, it seems like a natural move.

“I’m hoping that this is something we can do in the future,” Smith continued. “As long as our community wants us to lend a helping hand in bringing great records their way via such an incredibly historic label.”
