Chromatics bring a clutch of moonlit releases to limited colour vinyl

Including dreamy new LP Cherry.

Since their breakthrough third LP Night Drive, Johnny Jewel and co have been releasing gorgeous synth-pop, perfect for cinematic car rides and nocturnal adventures. Countless tracks by Chromatics have been licensed for television shows and Hollywood movies, notably ‘Tick of the Clock’ which practically set the blueprint for Drive.

This summer the band released Cherry, an expansive 30-minute LP that in-debts their moody Italo sound with an even greater sense of grandeur. The album, which centres around a compelling cover of Joy Division’s ‘Ceremony’, has been given a limited release (of 5000) on ‘ultra clear vinyl’, by the band’s label Italians Do It Better. The package comes with a printed inner sleeve and a foil-stamped jacket. Some copies were sent out before the release date as a gift by the label to fans.

Chromatics have also used the occasion to release a handful of recent 12″s on vinyl for the first time. Last year, the band released seven covers of Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’, with variations like ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Drums’ and ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Dub’, as well as 12″ ‘Just Like You’ and ‘Shadow’. All of these previously digi-only maxi-singles are now available in limited runs; ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ on clear vinyl and the latter two on clear vinyl dipped in coabit blue and emerald respectively.
