With plans to continue these events every month in 2020.
Bandcamp sales from its four Friday ‘no fee’ days have topped £15 million, reports the site.
While the site normally takes a 15% share of digital sales and 10% of merchandise sales, for ‘Bandcamp Friday’ – which has taken place on the first Friday of the month since March – the site has waived its fees to support artists and labels, subsequently drawing in £15 million worth of sales across just four days.
In order to continue to help artists and labels through the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, Bandcamp has announced it will be running Bandcamp Friday until the end of the year.
The platform has also revealed that since lockdowns began across much of the world in March it has drawn in over £58 million worth of sales – a significant amount of the half a billion that has been spent on the platform since its launch in 2007.
