The album is informed by Roxanne’s intersex identity and melds ambient with passages of spoken word taken from tonal harmony textbooks, cinematic dialogue samples, and castrati aria allusions.

Developed across the space of five years, Roxanne describes her process as beginning with “a drone element and a mood,” before later adding melodies, syllables, and lyrics.

Because of a Flower follows her 2019 ~~~ album on Leaving Records.
