Originally created as the score for a documentary about marine wildlife.

Japanese musician Akira Ito’s Marine Flowers (Science Fantasy) album is being reissued on vinyl, via Glossy Mistakes this December.

Ito initially began his career as an actor, but as gigs became scarcer and scarcer, director Shintaro Katsu encouraged him to move into the music industry.

Interested in creating what Glossy Mistakes terms “healing music”, Ito launched his own record label — Green & Water — to explore organic sounds.

Originally composed for a documentary about marine wildlife, Marine Flowers (Science Fantasy) spans aquatic electronics, ambient, soothing piano, and electroacoustic experiments.

First released in 1986, Glossy Mistake’s release of Marine Flowers (Science Fantasy) marks the album’s first reissue.
