The Vinyl Factory's highlights of 2013

A lovely little film collecting the best bits of the last 12 months at The Vinyl Factory, as captured by our wonderful film crew.

Sometimes only a montage will do. Since launching as a content site in April 2013, The Vinyl Factory and its intrepid crew of high-stakes camera operators Anoushka Seigler, Kamil Dymek and Pawel Ptak have made it their business to document the best in vinyl culture, from The Vinyl Factory’s own artists, releases and projects to a whole world of record shops, collectors and labels, who have consistently put the eternal format first.

Collected in just 90 seconds, we look back over 12 months The Vinyl Factory that saw us follow the fortunes of Dinos Chapman‘s A/V project Luftbobler, trail Jeremy Deller to the Venice Biennale via Abbey Road and hear from The Vinyl Factory artists Haroon Mirza, Martin Creed and Little Boots, as well as create music videos for Chapman and Massive Attack’s newest Battle Box release.

Notching over 70,000 views on youtube, The Vinyl Factory’s mini-doc on James Murphy and 2ManyDJs’ vinyl-only soundsystem Despacio has been the year’s most viewed film, while visits to Death Waltz records, Psychemagik and JD Twitch aka Optimo to find out their top 10 horror soundtracks, psychedelic rarities and Scottish records respectively have also been highlights.

Elsewhere, we caught up with the independent labels doing it for themselves Eglo Records and Erased Tapes, spent a morning snooping around music journalist Pete Paphides’ private record collection and documented some of the year’s vinyl success stories, Record Store Day, Independent Label Market and Secret 7″s.

Oh and we dropped in on ten of the world’s most forward thinking record shops, from LA to Glasgow to hear their favourite new releases, a separate compilation video of which you can watch here.
