An ethnographic expert.

Boiler Room visited the NYC home of Luaka Bop boss Yale Evelev for the latest episode of their Collections series. The two-hour trip through his extensive vault of 7,000-records showcases Yale’s eclectic tastes, from 20th C. classical and strange tape experiments to chutney records, Latin curiosities and other ethnographic goodies.

The video, which you can watch above in full, also tells the story of Luaka Bop’s own signees William Onyeabor and Tom Zé. Luaka Bop was established in 1988 by David Byrne, but since 2003 the Talking Heads frontman stepped away from the label, which become wholly independent in 2006.
