An epic Icelandic opera with no performers.
Former Sigur Rós member Kjartan Sveinsson has swapped the post-rock landscape for German romanticism on his debut solo project Der Klang der Offenbarung des Göttlichen (or ‘The Explosive Sonics of Divinity’).
A gorgeously orchestrated 4-part score for Ragnar Kjartansson’s opera of the same name, Der Klang was first premiered in Berlin in 2014 and adapts Icelandic author Halldór Laxness’ meditations on beauty in World Light for an opera without divas, where empty hand-painted sets form a “non-narrative of pure-hearted banality”.
Released on double vinyl 10″ and housed in a heavyweight gatefold sleeve with artwork designed by Kjartansson, you can order Der Klang here and watch a trailer for the release, premiered by Sigur Rós, above.
