Mr Thing, Eric Lau, Tall Black Guy and kidkanevil star in new documentary and release.

Last November, First Word Records was given unprecedented access to John Peel’s historic record collection. The London label used the unique opportunity to create Nothing Leaves The Archive, the final instalment of its Record Store Day trilogy.

Mr Thing, Eric Lau, Tall Black Guy and kidkanevil were invited to wade through tens of thousands of records from Peel’s collection, sampling bits they liked before going home to produce tracks with the recorded audio. The documentary (above) captures the process and the results, which will be released as part of Record Store Day in collaboration with the John Peel Archive.

Nothing Leaves The Archive will be available in record stores this Saturday (16 April). Take a listen to the four tracks created from the archive below.

In 2014, First Word released Nothing Leaves The House, in which Eric Lau, Tall Black Guy and kidkanevil made tracks by sampling Mr Thing’s collection. The following year, the format was tweaked slightly in 2015 for Thing Leaves The House – this time Mr. Thing picked a record for each producer to sample.
